An Editor's Irony
Webster defines
"Irony" as:
"The frustration of hopes."
No shit! See what you writers put me through!
The drink on the right is for those manuscripts that insist on randomly placing periods outside of quotation marks. The drink on the left is for when I realize that doing a "global replace" cost me twice as much time than if I would have manually corrected the errors. AAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!
Wouldn't trade it for the world, though.

I find the best course of action is to consume half the drink on the right, then top off the cup with the drink on the left.
Oohhh, that's a great idea! Usually, I just keep 'em both handy and alternate sips...tends to be a lot of $$$ to pretty much feel like I drank water all day, though.
Thanks for the comment, BT
You gonna share that Jack?
Oh, I suppose. Next time I'll buy a fifth.
Hope all is productive.
Oh my God, add a Newman's dark chocolate bar and I'll be right over! Not sure if you'll find me as cute as your pooch...
Headin' to Kroger right now...
At the end of a long-ass sentence that concludes a parenthetical, does the period sit on the inside or the outside, as well as the question mark (assuming you have time for such nonsensical questions from amatuers)?
Shit! To actually answer your question: With parentheticals, if the whole sentence is in parentheses, period in. If the parenthetical, even grammatically complete, is used within another sentence, period out:
Helen turned and walked away. (She detested his vulgarity.)
The message to Lucy was written on a napkin (she had found it trying to blow her nose).
"This would be the last time he spoke to her [his former mistress]."
Scott,
By the way, your sarcasm is not only appreciated, it is encouraged! Drink of whiskey?
Oh, yeah. Did you mean, "that concludes [with] a parenthetical..."?
So there is a dual rule on this? That explains why my infinately outrageous IQ couldn't get it right.
Ever hold out two fingers in a circle at arms distance and then close one eye and then the other? You watch the world skip back and forth, and yet you KNOW the world is not moving...
That is how I feel when contemplating parentheticals and periods...
PS. Unless you got stalkers, dump the moderation thingy. It makes you appear afraid...
Oh, I'm afraid...very afraid! I tried the finger-circle thing...pretty cool. Too bad one couldn't do that in actuality.
Moderation off...for now.
