Damn it All to Hell!

So my bud in Cali sends me this picture of me in a former life. It's six in the morning, and I have been up since three. Couldn't sleep. The pic makes me a little sad, 'cause it reminds me of how much I miss playing in a rock band. I turned to a couple of pages in my "A Thousand Paths to Happiness" book, but no help there today.

Life is funny, ain't it? Just when you think you know where you're going--BAM--change of plans. Back when this pic was taken, editing was probably the last thing on my mind (I wonder what the hell I was thinking about...oh, yes...beer). Here I am, though, updating my blog, and loving every minute of my literary gig.

If any of you have lived a former life before the writing thing, let me know. I bet there are other "former rockstars" out there, among other things. Hope everyone is having a great weekend so far. If you haven't been over to Snark's blog lately, go check it out...there is some funny shit on there today!

My former and present life revolves around sawdust and being happy working with my hands. I am a former world class itinerant carpenter who has taken up the craft of writing because my hair is graying and I look smarter now than I look strong.

I used to work with a few Rock Stars, the rich and famous kind, and their gig wasn't a bad one, to be sure.

I shall wander through your enclaves a bit, and see what you are all about...

Don't let me ruffle anything you don't want ruffled...

Hey, thanks for stopping by. A fellow Northwestern cat...nice. I grew up around the Cascade Mountains, and I miss it up there quite a bit.

I hope you are not implying that one must look "unintelligent" to be a traveling carpenter. I do agree, though, that half of this writing deal is "presence." The grey hair (I am right there with ya) should help a little.

If you get a moment, send me something to read. Like I have said here before, that's how I get to know people. And hey, don't worry 'bout rufflin' my feathers. I'll just smooth 'em out and keep on soaring.

I tried to find an e-mail addy to send an except (short, of course) but saw none.

That link is my dumping blog, and I have placed Chapter 1 (reasonable draft) there.

My profile leads to AELEOPE, which is where I swap stories with people who like stories...

I meant to imply that my reflection in the mirror is telling me that I am not the brawny hunk of working meat I once was, so I better wise up...

Thanks for the link, Scott. I will venture over that way and check things out.

I hear ya about the mirror telling you something's changin'. Mine tells me to never, EVER put on the spandex pants again...EVER! (God, I miss those 80's-metal days...)

OK, so what band were you in and would a "kid" from the 80's in Boston have heard you?? OH MY GOD ARE YOU BILLY SQUIRE??? LOL!

A kid from the 80's, huh? Ha! That's sweet.

I played in a band called "Hard Rain" from Seattle. We were what you call a "B" list band, which means we played all over the place, but always as a supporting act. Most of the rock bands from the 80's you know we played with. Fun times, and thanks for asking.

Yes, I am Billy Squire. Stroke me, stroke me...

Doc, did you ever hang with Eddie Spaghetti?

Word Doctor said...

HA! The SuperSuckers fucking rock! I have seen them a few times, but they really came out in about '92 or '93, when the whole hair-metal thing was about done. They are a great group, though. Do you hang with the Spaghetti man? ARE you the Spaghetti man?
Do you WISH you were the Spaghetti man?

See ya, BT

Hi! I saw your profile in the comment trail of Miss Snark, and just checked your blog. It rocks! And I'm not referring to the music.
I'm just an amateur writer. My occupation is legal, which involves a lot of writing. Just not the kind of writing that causes my heartbeat to settle into a nice groove.
I'm going to keep an eye out for your posts (and check the old ones).

Hey, luc2, thanks for stopping by. I appreciate the comments you make at Snark's place as well. Fun over there, huh?

Sounds like you might be gathering information for your suspense novel, ala The Firm. Best of luck, and see ya soon.
